Chiropractic Help – what is it?

Chiropractic help has a simple definition; simply put, it means the different health instances where a Chiropractor can be of great importance to you. A health challenge that demands the input of a Chiropractic as first point of contact.

One of the most common questions I receive during a Chiropractic consultation and examination is, how will chiropractic help my pain/problem and how many treatments do I need to get healthy again?

I guess it depends on how you define “healthy”.

For some people, healthy means that you’re pain free. For others, it means pain free with full range of motion and lastly “healthy” can mean pain free, full range of motion, functional, and not degenerative.  Since “pain free”, “full range of motion”, and “functional” are self- explanatory, let’s spend 90 seconds on degeneration…

How can chiropractic help and care effect joint degeneration?

Joints are meant to move, and when you move your joints regularly and preferably with a bit of resistance (exercise) you have the best chance of keeping joints and surrounding tissues healthy and functional.

The Joint Issue:

Part of the problem today is the amount of time we sit in front of a computer; whether you’re an adult working on a computer or a teen (or adult) gaming, the result is the same… less active lifestyles which leads to more degeneration.

These days it seems as though we don’t use joints as much as we should; as the saying goes, “if you don’t use it, you lose it”.

Most of the time, this means that over time, the joint becomes stiff, muscles wasted and the joint segment becomes degenerative.

This leads to thinning cartilage, joint capsule thickening (capsulitis), bone density usually decreases (osteopenia or osteoporosis), and bone spurs (osteophytes) may grow in the direction of each other in order to form some sort of bridge to stabilize the joint.

How Chiropractic helps?

The beauty of chiropractic care to an under-utilized joint, restricted or blocked joint is that through a chiropractic manipulation (which should be relatively gentle when delivered by a QUALIFIED DOCTOR OF CHIROPRACTIC), you can un-seize the joint, freeing it from any restriction, be it painful or not.

The bottom line is that a chiropractic manipulation increases joint range of motion, slows down and in some cases almost halts joint degeneration or joint decay, breaks up calcific strands that may be forming within the joint/cartilage, stimulates the end plates of bone and cartilage stem cells to activate and produce more joint supporting matrixes, and finally through joint imbibition, support fluid dynamic consistency within the cartilage.

Would you believe that all of the above occurs during your very FIRST CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT?

Would you also believe that the average spinal problem only requires 1-6 treatments delivered over a 10-day period?

The following is a treatment frequency guide line which after 20 years of practice seems to be the case more often than not:

  1. Basic and new complaints, 1-3 adjustments are normally required to attain an 86% improvement.
  2. Moderate complaints, which have been around for more than 6 months, will require approximately 6 visits within a 2-week period.
  3. Advanced complaints which have been around for several years, likely require 10 sessions over the first 3 weeks, followed by 1 adjustment per month for wellness care.

A piece of advice from your friendly neighborhood chiropractor, if you experience pain or you feel your health just isn’t right, please don’t hesitate or procrastinate in making an appointment to see your chiropractor, whoever he or she might be. The pain may disappear but only after your body has adapted to the pain… meaning the underlying problem probably still exists and needs correction.

Don’t let dis-ease turn into disease. See a chiropractor today.
